The Bergen County Technical School District honored Michael Hern of Luxury Living by Michael Hern Real Estate as its Business Partner of the Year.
The award is given annually to a county vocational technical school business partner for outstanding contributions to career and technical education. Business partners play a variety of roles, including serving on county vocational technical school program advisory boards, offering opportunities for students to gain valuable work experience, donating equipment, or serving as mentors and role models for students.
Hern is a successful realtor, the founder of a coaching program for realtors, and a motivational speaker.
After graduating from college, Hern wanted to be a health and physical education teacher at the high school level, where he could teach, coach and mentoring kids. He instead got into real estate when a top-producing agent approached him to help with his business.
Hern volunteered to work with students and to offer internships and learning experiences after delivering a motivational speech to students at all four of the Bergen Tech campuses.
Hern and his team visit Applied Technology High School once a month to teach a class on entrepreneurship, the role of mindfulness in business, and how to be a productive leader in the global world.
This year he engaged a student in an internship involving the creation of a media site for Mr. Hern’s real estate company that aims to educate people on the world of real estate and provide a glimpse into the life of a real estate agent.
