During Career and Technical Education Month in February, the New Jersey Council on County Vocational Technical Schools is highlighting successful graduates of the county’s 21 vocational technical schools.

Barry Hayes is a 2019 graduate of Ocean County Vocational Technical School’s apprenticeship program. He graduated from the high school in 1991. He currently works as a machine trades machinist for Naval Air Systems Command.

“OCVTS, through the apprenticeship program and now employment, has provided me with the opportunity to acquire mentors and forge professional relationships while enhancing networking endeavors. Ocean County Vocational Technical School has also allowed me to gain insight in the essential workplace skills as mandated by industry needs and will continue to aid me in furthering my career endeavors.

“When I started out in the apprenticeship program, I realized that both a trade and training opportunities have surpassed all of my expectations. After four years of related technical training at OCVTS, supplemented by on the job training, I now feel quite confident to ‘pay it forward’ and continue on as an instructor of Machine Trades.”
