US Senators Robert Menendez and Cory Booker have joined 22 Senate colleagues in urging the leaders of the Senate Labor, Health and Human Services and Appropriations Committee to maintain the pre-sequestration funding levels for Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Act grants in the omnibus appropriations bill that will soon be considered by the Senate.
The Senators’ letter said:
“As the foundational support for CTE (career and technical education) program development, Perkins is essential to moving our economic recovery forward. However, funding has not kept pace with the demand for high-quality programs. Total Perkins funding to states declined by 13 percent from FY2007 through FY2014. While we recognize that this is a difficult budgetary climate, more must be done to support our high schools, technical centers and community colleges.”
