…Senate President (Steve) Sweeney met with leaders and advocates of vocational-technical schools at the New Jersey School Boards Association 2017 Annual Workshop, and spoke about his continued efforts to help New Jersey fill more middle-skilled job openings.
“From my work on school funding over the past 18 months, it has become increasingly clear that one of the main causes of the shortage of middle-skilled workers is a lack of seats in our excellent county vocational-technical school system,” said Sweeney.
“To meet the needs of these skilled jobs, I am calling for legislation to put a major bond issue for the construction, expansion and equipping of our county vocational-technical schools on the November 2018 ballot.”
Sweeney added that the legislation will emphasize public-private partnerships that match the county vocational-technical school programs with the needs of employers. The partnerships enable county vo-techs to share facilities with county colleges.
