The Somerset County Vocational & Technical School District honored Prestige Medical Solutions, a private vocational institute in North Plainfield that specializes in career training for the medical profession as its Business Partner of the Year.
The award is given annually to a county vocational technical school business partner for outstanding contributions to career and technical education. Business partners play a variety of roles, including serving on county vocational technical school program advisory boards, offering opportunities for students to gain valuable work experience, donating equipment, or serving as mentors and role models for students.
Prestige Medical Solutions was selected for their efforts to provide certification programs to SCVTS Health Occupations students in as well as their exceptional student support.
The partnership between Somerset County Vocational & Technical Schools (SCVTS) and Prestige Medical Solutions began in the 2017-2018 school year when Prestige Medical Solutions offered students a way to earn their certified nursing assistant (CNA) certificate at an affordable rate. Additionally, Prestige offered students courses in CPR, certified dementia practitioner and certified home health aide.
“Prestige made the process fast, easy, and efficient,” said Randee Holz, supervisor of Academics for SCVTS.
Ellisa Lee, the owner, CEO and director of training at Prestige Medical Group, came to the SCVTS campus, discussed course options with students and answered questions. Previously, students were required to obtain their own malpractice insurance, however Prestige was able to help with that as well.
“As our relationship with Prestige deepened, so did their offerings,” Holz said. “Prestige is up to date on the current trends in health care and when we ask about a class offering, they try to make it happen.”
During the 2018-2019 school year, Prestige Medical Solutions added phlebotomy and electrocardiogram (EKG) certificate courses, in addition to offering their classes on the SCVTS campus to better accommodate the students. Also, Prestige was generous enough to award an SCVTS student with a phlebotomy scholarship.
This school year, in addition to the previously mentioned offerings, SCVTS and Prestige Medical Solutions are working to offer a Medical Assistant certificate course. Over 20 students are currently taking part in the CNA course and five students are participating in the phlebotomy course.
