Bergen County Academies in Hackensack and Essex County Vocational Technical Schools’ Bloomfield Tech and Newark Tech were among the 15 New Jersey public and parochial schools recognized by USED in 2015.
“This designation is the most prestigious honor in the United States’ public education system,” said Timothy McCorkell, the president of the New Jersey Council of County Vocational-Technical Schools and the superintendent of the Monmouth County Vocational School District. “It’s both a state and national recognition of excellence, since the state education departments nominate the schools and the USED makes the final selections.”
“We’re very proud that since 2006, 20 New Jersey county vocational-technical schools have been recognized with the Blue Ribbon designation,” McCorkell said. “It’s an endorsement of the hands-on, engaging educational opportunities that career and technical education provides, as well as a tribute to the local school districts that prepare students to succeed in these rigorous programs.”
“This honor recognizes your students’ accomplishments and the hard work and dedication that went into their success,” US Secretary of Education Arne Duncan said in a video message to the awardees.
“Your journey has taught you collaboration, intentional instruction, and strong relationships in school and with your community. You represent excellence—in vision, in implementation, and in results—and we want to learn as much as we can from you,” Duncan said.
This is the second Blue Ribbon award for two of the schools: Bergen Academies was recognized in 2006 and Bloomfield Tech was recognized in 2009
